Bag Conveyor

When you need to transport a high number of bags, a bag conveyor from Packaging Systems International, Inc. is the perfect solution. We design and build a number of these to serve our clients’ shipping and warehousing needs. Pallet conveyors are also available for those with different requirements. Ask us about the following types of bag handling conveyors:

  • Bag Elevator Flattener — Forces excess air out of the bags and distributes the product uniformly so that they can be stacked in tight, stable, aesthetically pleasing pallet loads. The flattener “boom” is suspended from the main conveyor frame by a set of bearing mounted “rocker” arms and a heavy-duty spring assembly. The opening of the flattener “boom” and the flattening tension are adjustable through a hydraulic cylinder and hand pump. The bag flattener conveyor frame is 6″ structural steel channel with welded angle iron frame spreaders and structural channel support legs.

  • Rubber Belt Transport Conveyor — 24″ wide x 9′-8″ long. Conveyor frame is 6″ structural steel channel with welded angle iron cross bracing and structural channel support legs. Conveying surface is 2-ply, smooth top rubber belting riding on 2½” diameter x 11 gauge rollers spaced on approximately 12″ centers. Belt take-up assembly with threaded rod adjustment is provided. Non-reversing magnetic starter is provided in the main control panel.

  • Chain-Driven Live Roller Conveyor — 27” effective width. Rollers are 2½” diameter x 11 gauge tubing with two (2) #60A15 sprockets welded to one end for roll-to-roll transfer of power and spaced on 4-1/2” centers. Side guide rails with four (4) way adjustment and UHMW contact surfaces are provided on both sides.

  • Hinged Belt Reject/Bypass Conveyor — The Hinged Belt Reject Conveyor diverts off-weight bags and/or metal contaminated bags from the main conveyor line by redirecting their travel path to the Rejected Bag Accumulation System. This prevents these bags from being palletized and shipped to your customers. The reject conveyor is 24” wide x 4’-0” long overall. The tail terminal is mounted in a four (4) bearing hinge assembly and a pneumatic cylinder is provided to raise and lower the discharge end to allow bags to be conveyed downstream to the palletizer or to be rejected. All required pneumatic controls and motor/logic controls are provided with the reject conveyor.

  • Pop-Up Bag Turner Conveyor — Consisting of a chain-driven live roller conveyor. Rollers are comprised of a 3½” diameter black neoprene cover on a 1″ diameter CRS shaft. The rollers are spaced on 4-3/8” centers and mounted in 2-hole flange bearings. A continuous strand of #RC40-2 (double #40) roller chain drives each roller, and a UHMW hold-down bar ensures proper engagement of the roller chain and sprockets. Conveyor speed is typically 165 FPM. The Pop-Up Turner is either a “cross” or a “grid” design and is mounted to the underside of the Bag Turning Conveyor on a set of parallelogram arms. The Pop-Up Turner is raised and lowered by a heavy-duty pneumatic cylinder and is rotated in 90° or 180º increments by a 2-speed Eurodrive gear motor that has a self-contained electric brake. The Pop-Up Bag Turner is typically used to provide “butts-out” or “tags-out” configuration of bags on a pallet. All required pneumatic controls, as well as field electrical devices, i.e., proximity switches, to sense the position of the Pop-Up Turner and photo eye to sense the presence of a bag are provided. Motor starters are provided and located in the Logic/Motor Control Enclosure of the existing automatic palletizer.

  • Gravity Roller Accumulator/Pacer Conveyor — 24″ wide. The accumulation section is a gravity roller conveyor x 4’-4″ long overall. Idler rollers are 1″ outside diameter and are spaced on 1½” centers. The pacer conveyor is 3′-0″ long overall. Belting is 24″ wide rough top with a “V” center guide riding on a slider bed. Belt take-up assembly with threaded rod adjustment is included. Belt speed is 150 feet per minute. Retro-reflective photo eyes and a non-reversing magnetic motor starter in the main logic/motor control panel for the system are included.

  • Powered Roller Accumulator/Pacing Conveyor — 24” nominal width. In operation, the Powered Roller Accumulator/Pacing Conveyor properly paces bags across a Checkweigher or to the Bag Turning Conveyor of an automatic palletizer. The accumulator section accumulates bags when the instantaneous bagging rate exceeds the ability of the palletizer to handle the rate. Conveying speed is 150 feet per minute. Controls include non-reversing magnetic starters in the main logic/motor control enclosure of the Palletizer, “start-stop” logic control, and three (3) retro-reflective photo eyes.

  • Flat Wire Belt Packer Conveyor — 36″ wide. Conveyor frame is 6″ structural channel with welded angle iron frame spreaders and structural channel support legs complete with anchor bolt plates. Conveying surface is heavy-duty galvanized steel flat wire belting, 1″ x 1″ x ½” thick with 6-gauge connecting rods. The idler rollers are spaced on 4″ centers, except near the filling tubes where they are positioned to allow a discharged bag to fall between them. Belt tensioning is achieved by means of take-up bearings with threaded rod adjustment on the tail terminal. Non-reversing magnetic motor starter is provided in the main logic/motor control panel.

  • Reject Conveyor — consisting of a chain-driven live roller conveyor 24” effective width. Rollers are 2½” diameter x 11 gauge tubing with two (2) #60A15 sprockets welded to one end for roll-to-roll transfer of power and spaced on 4 3/8” centers. Rejecting off-weight bags/boxes/drums is achieved by a pneumatically operated pusher blade mounted to a carriage with cam rollers that rides in an overhead track. Solenoid actuated control valve, flow controls, hoses, and fittings are provided. All required field electrical devices, i.e., NEMA 12 proximity switches, and a photo-eye are also provided.

  • Air Wash Conveyor — 24” wide with a frame consisting of 6” structural steel channel with welded angle iron frame spreaders. Support for the conveying system includes a structural steel channel welded to the conveyor frame with 5/8” footplate anchor bolts. The unit consists of a flat wire belt conveyor, manifold assembly with air nozzles, and a sheet metal shroud that encloses the conveyor to contain the dust. In operation, blasts of air are directed over the top, bottom, and sides of a bag to blow off the extraneous dust. A hook-up point for the purchaser’s dust collection system is provided to reduce the level of fugitive dust in the immediate area of the air wash.

  • Rubber Belt Orientation Conveyor — 42″ wide. Conveyor frame is 6″ structural channel with welded angle iron frame spreaders and structural channel support legs. Conveying surface is 2-ply smooth top rubber belting with a “V” center guide vulcanized to the centerline of the backside to assist with belt tracking. An adjustable belt take-up assembly is provided. Also included are an adjustable “knock-down” bar and bag turning dome assembly. In operation, upright bags from the closing conveyor are knocked down and rotated such that their “butt-end” leads for downstream travel.
